file misc.py, module handybeam.misc

Functions and helpers that would not fit anywhere else.

Some of them might be awaiting refactoring or deletion.

class handybeam.misc.HandyDict(args={'False': False, 'True': True})[source]

Provides matlab-like setting/storage of items in a dict (dictionary)

q=HandyDict() q.new_key = ‘Hello world!’ print(q.new_key)

happily copypasted from https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2352181/how-to-use-a-dot-to-access-members-of-dictionary , and modified only slightly.

__init__(args={'False': False, 'True': True})[source]

starts the instance.

Parameters:args – initial value in the dictionary. If not set, it initializes with a default value of {'True': True, 'False':False}
__repr__

Return repr(self).

__str__

Return str(self).

clear() → None. Remove all items from D.
copy() → a shallow copy of D
fromkeys()

Returns a new dict with keys from iterable and values equal to value.

get(k[, d]) → D[k] if k in D, else d. d defaults to None.
items() → a set-like object providing a view on D's items
keys() → a set-like object providing a view on D's keys
pop(k[, d]) → v, remove specified key and return the corresponding value.

If key is not found, d is returned if given, otherwise KeyError is raised

popitem() → (k, v), remove and return some (key, value) pair as a

2-tuple; but raise KeyError if D is empty.

setdefault(k[, d]) → D.get(k,d), also set D[k]=d if k not in D
update([E, ]**F) → None. Update D from dict/iterable E and F.

If E is present and has a .keys() method, then does: for k in E: D[k] = E[k] If E is present and lacks a .keys() method, then does: for k, v in E: D[k] = v In either case, this is followed by: for k in F: D[k] = F[k]

values() → an object providing a view on D's values
handybeam.misc.copy_docstring(from_function, separator='\n', prepend=True)[source]

Decorator. Copies the docstring of from_function into the decorated function.

This is used to make the documentation of the overriding methods nicer: enables to join the documentation of the super class and the current class in a single place.

if prepend is true, the current(local) function’s goes first. Otherwise, the from_function’s docstring goes first.

handybeam.misc.handyround(value, base=64)[source]

rounds the provided value to the nearest multiple of the base

Useful for coercing size of the parallel run to the executor width.

Parameters:
  • value – the number to round. preferably, a numpy type
  • base – the number to round to.
Returns:

np.int(base * np.ceil(value / base))

List of primes. Useful for many things.

Prime numbers are innate to the world.

Example usage: this_value=handybeam.misc.primes[8] returns 19

handybeam.remember_instance_creation_info

file remember_instance_creation_info.py – tools helpful for debugging.

exception handybeam.remember_instance_creation_info.InstanceCreationError[source]

Debug helper.

Currently, just a pass - but could be used to do something (e.g. log an error) if needed.

__init__

Initialize self. See help(type(self)) for accurate signature.

__repr__

Return repr(self).

__str__

Return str(self).

args
with_traceback()

Exception.with_traceback(tb) – set self.__traceback__ to tb and return self.

class handybeam.remember_instance_creation_info.RememberInstanceCreationInfo[source]

Debug helper.

Make Your objects inherit this class to receive the benefits.

provides to a subclass:

  • self.creation_name
  • self.creation_module
  • self.creation_file
  • self.creation_file
  • self.creation_line
  • self.creation_function
  • self.creation_text

Sourced from Stack overflow

__init__()[source]

constructor. Starts a thread to figure out the super’s creation info and bails out.

__repr__()[source]

part of RememberInstanceCreationInfo. Overrides the regular __repr__(), and adds the creation name to the existing object’s __repr__()

__str__

Return str(self).

_check_existence_after_creation()[source]

Helper function for RememberInstanceCreationInfo

Returns:raises an error if the object’s data is not found
print_debug_creation_info()[source]

helper method of RememberInstanceCreationInfo

Returns:prints the debug data

handybeam.bugcatcher

file bugcatcher.py – error reporting tool

Should an error or exception occur, it will be automatically submitted to BugSnag with stack trace. This will help me to debug the problem quicker.

Note

At this time, this facility it is completely disabled, but could be enabled in some circumstances.

handybeam.bugcatcher.enable_auto_install = False

set to True to enable automatic bugsnag installation on the target system.

Type:flag
handybeam.bugcatcher.enable_bugsnag = True

set to True to enable error reporting using bugsnag.

Type:flag
handybeam.bugcatcher.enable_hostname_reporting = True

if true, host name and login name will be included in the report.

Type:flag
handybeam.bugcatcher.install_and_import(package)[source]

install and import package this will attempt to import the specified package. If the package is not installed on the system, it will attempt to install it using pip, If it cannot be installed, and then imported, it fails.

Example

install_and_import(‘bugsnag’) install_and_import(‘pyopencl’)

Parameters:package – what package to install/import.
Returns:

__init__.py

This is a python idiomatic file.

With this file, one defines which modules to load when one says from handybeam import *.
